Addressing media persons here on Tuesday October 6, Taranath said that he married Shalini (30) on May 7, 2009 and his wife was pregnant when she was murdered.
Shalini was found dead on May 3 night when Taranath returned home after work. Looking at the body, Taranath suspected that it was murder.
The police were facing difficulties initially in cracking the case. Taranath Shetty told police about his suspicions on Ashok Shetty, a close relative who had visited their house a few days before she was found murdered, which helped the police make a headway into the case.
Following this, police kept a track on Ashok's movements and also traced his phone calls. Soon, Ashok was arrested at his wife’s house near Maripalla of Farangipet inJune 2011.
The accused Ashok Shetty was brought to Mumbai for interrogation, where he confessed the crime and said that he took away all her jewellery after murdering her.
"I visited court several times for about one year. I was sure that the accused would be punished as the case was in favour of me. But the case took a U-turn on September 26, when the court ruled that there were not enough witnesses to prove Ashok as guilty.
Saddened by the incident, Taranath on Tuesday addressed the media and said he would approach the high court to seek justice for his wife’s murder.
Anand Shetty, Shalini’s Shetty’s brother Janardhan Shetty, niece Jayashree, Taranath Shetty’s brother Shekar Shetty among others were present at the press meet.
