Mangalore, Oct 6: The Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) on Sunday October 6 organized a youth convention at Padil junction to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and also to 'answer' those who criticized the HJV over last year's attack on home stay at Padil.
Addressing the gathering, HJV state convener Jagadish Karanth said, "There are two reasons for organizing this convention - to mark Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary; and secondly, over the past one year there has been clamour by the media and the so-called intellectuals about the home stay attack with the intention to wipe out HJV and defame the name of Padil, hence, this convention is an answer for all that."
Speaking further on the home stay attack he said, “The incident occurred because of drugs and sex mafia. The so-called intellectuals hyped this issue in an attempt to destroy HJV and Hindu culture.
"The Padil home stay attack was used by some journalists and their hired team in an attempt to wipe out HJV and crush the Hindu Samaj by blowing the issue out of proportion and defaming us. Subash Padil who fought against it has won the struggle, although he was jailed for 1 year and 34 days. This convention shows who has ultimately won.
"HJV is clear in its viewpoint regarding the home stay incident, and there is no confusion whatsoever. The very next day after the incident, HJV came out in the open and defended the attack, and to this day we defend it," he declared.
Defending the attack on home stay, he added, "All in all, the home stay incident was a fight against drugs and sex mafia, wherein innocent girls are trapped and forced into prostitution. HJV will never allow this to happen in Hindu Samaj. The Padil incident was an answer to drugs and sex mafia, aimed at protecting the Hindu Samaj from cultural attack."
Showering praises on the HJV activists who had carried out the attack, he said, "The youths who tried to protect the Hindu Samaj against the cultural attack were sent to jail for one year and two months. Remember, if ever your granddaughters or relatives are trapped in drugs and sex mafia, HJV activities like Subash Padil will come to their rescue."
Coming out in strong support of Subhash Padil who was one of the main accused in the incident, he said, "The police also trapped Subash Padil in dacoity case by going to his house and placing things in Subash’s suitcase. A few alleged that Subash was involved in the incident because he was not getting ‘hafta’ and even former state home minister R Ashok had stated that Subash had taken money from JD(S). We have faced many hurdles in our revolution."
He also said that journalists who were arrested in the case 'begged' with the government to withdraw the case, but HJV never did that and stuck on to its stand.
'Drugs and sex mafia thriving in DK'
Expressing concerns over increasing cases of drug abuse in the district, Karanth said, "Dakshina Kannada is suffering due to the influence of the drugs and sex mafia. Mainly innocent college girls are being victimized by them. College-going girls are trapped in the name of parties and birthday celebrations where they are sexually exploited, filmed, and pushed into prostitution. This is the strategy of this mafia. College students from various places come to Dakshina Kannada because it is an educational hub. Hence, keeping this in mind, the drugs and sex mafia is thriving here. After such incidents, the girls are not ready to file a complaint.
"Many support this cultural attack as well as the drugs and sex mafia including some policemen. After the home stay incident, a girl named Sneha lost her life to drugs. But no secularists or leftists came forward to protest against it," he pointed out.
"The drugs and sex mafia is actively functioning in Dakshina Kannada but HJV will never tolerate it," he said.
"When there is no one to listen to the problem of the Hindu Samaj, when there is no equality or law, when there are corrupt officers, what is wrong with moral policing? There is no other way when justice is denied. Where was Ramanath Rai (district incharge minister) when cattle were stolen from cow sheds?
"There are several hurdles to a Hindu Samaj. HJV is born to protect Hindu culture and it will fulfil its responsibility," he said.
Blessing the occasion, Sri Rajashekarananda Swami, said, “We have gathered here on the auspicious day of ‘Sharanavarathri’. Lord Durga took nine ‘Avatars’ to destroy evil. It is also necessary for the Hindu Samaj to do so. The Hindu Samaj is positive energy. Positivism can correct our deteriorated culture and system. It is necessary and we should struggle to preserve our Hindu culture. Only a Hindu leader can lead this country towards betterment. Every Hindu should play the role of Rama. Today, our culture, values, and morality in society is decreasing and all pro-Hindu organizations should strive to protect this land.
Sathyajit Suratkal delivered the keynote address. On this occasion, Janardhan Arkula, Vasudev Gowda, Kishor, Subash Padil, Amith, and Raviraj B C Road were present.
