Udupi, Oct 6: A classroom of Hejamdy Kodi government school caught fire on Thursday October 3 night.
The incident came to light when locals noticed the roof tiles started breaking. They tried to put off the flames. District and Lanco fire brigade was called to the spot and averted major damage.
Urban Development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on Friday October 4 visited the spot and inspected the place. Looking at the damage caused to the notice board in the school, it is suspected that there is involvement of some miscreants behind the incident.
Minister asked police officials to probe the matter soon and asked education department to repair the classroom.
The roof of the classroom, desk, bench, utensils and other materials were damaged due to fire. The total loss is estimated to run into several lakh rupees.
Zilla panchayat CEO Prabhakar Sharma, DDPI Nagendra Madyastha, education officer Vasanth Shetty visited the spot and assured to repair the school.
Hejamady gram panchayat president Vaman Kotian, zilla panchayat member Geethanjali Suvarna, taluk panchayat member Sachin Nayak, Abdul Azeez Hejamady, Kaup block youth Congress president, Narayan Poojary, Dayanand, Pranesh, Vinod Kotian, Diwakar among others were present.
