Bangalore, Oct 6: The foundation for the proposed multi-crore LNG terminal in Mangalore will be laid this November, said union minister for petroleum and natural gas Dr M Veerappa Moily.
He made the announcement while launching the free trade LPG (cooking gas) scheme here on Saturday October 5.
The mega project will be undertaken in Mangalore by ONGC, MRPL together with a Japan-based company. The feasibility study for the project is over and next month the work will begin, he said.
He further said that the government has been undertaking several steps to bring improvement in the petroleum sector, especially in the gas cylinder distribution system. In this regard, the gas agencies will be directed to provide cooking gas cylinders to consumers within three days of booking, failing which action would be taken against the agencies, he said.
The petroleum ministry is also mulling launch of online facility to book gas cylinders, Moily added.
The MoU for taking up feasibility study was signed by ONGC and the Japan-based company in March this year. At the time, Moily had said that the terminal is expected to be ready by year 2018.
On the occasion, the minister also announced the inter-company LPG portability scheme, which enables customers to choose or switch distributor of any of the three state-run oil marketing firms - Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum. If the service provided by the company or agency is not up to the mark, the consumer can shift to another company or agency. If the new agency happens to be part of the same oil company, the consumer need not return the cylinder and regulator while shifting.
