Kundapur, Oct 3: "Catholic community should grow in strength in politics and the community has the responsibility of encouraging suitable people into it," said MLA J R Lobo.
He was speaking after responding to a felicitation programme held for him by Kundapur unit of Catholic sabha at the residence of Kundapur unit Catholic sabha president Vinod Crasta.
“I am always for the development of catholic community and working as the representative of the community. Besides strengthening it in education and politics, priority should be given to the development of the backward class of people in it. Groups and associations should strive to make the government programmes and facilities known to them and reach them”, he said. He said that he will ask the state government to declare September 8 as a public holiday.
Convener of state catholic associations Denis D’Silva, M R P Union former president Roshan Castelino, Catholic sabha central president Kiran Crasta, Former Town municipal council vice president Jacob D’ Souza, Catholic community Kundapur president Johnson Almeida and Valerian Menezes were present.

Speaking to reporters, J R Lobo said that the congress government has worked for the wellbeing of all sections of people. There are two Muslim, one Catholic and one Jain MLA in the district. It is being heard that there is less representation for minorities in Udupi. The government will be thinking about it during appointment to corporations and academies in the future, he said.
Catholic community should come forward and make use of the opportunities wherever available. I will also be raising my voice legally, whenever the community is harmed. He said MP Jayaprakash Hegde is a decent politician and is a thinker of development. It is worth following his footsteps, he said.
