Udupi, Oct 3: Fr Francis Lewis of Christ Church, Manipal, has issued a statement indicating that the incident wherein a group of students had pasted some posters depicting ‘The Last Supper’ with the face of mice, was a genuine mistake committed out of ignorance.
A group of students from KMC and MIT, Manipal, had formed a cultural group called ‘Dramatist and Anonymous–DRAMANON’ and acted in dramas as an extra-curricular activity in an attempt to hone their skills.
The drama chosen for this month is ‘The Mouse Trap’ by Agatha Christie. The student who prepared the poster wanted to put in the faces of mice and unfortunately found the picture of ‘The Last Supper’ and edited the faces. To do justice to the sponsors they printed 400 posters and pasted them in and around Manipal.
A memorandum was submitted to the DC in this regard, however, the matter was later sorted out.
Fr Lewis stressed that it was not done intentionally. “Apparently, the students involved in it have no knowledge and significance of the picture 'The Last Supper'. The Catholics who found the poster brought it to my notice. I called the numbers printed in the posters and asked for an explanation. They sincerely apologized and by evening they collected all the posters and brought it to my office. I had an open discussion with the students concerned. They regret their imprudence,” he added.
