Mangalore, Oct 2: Catholic Sabha, Bondel has done praiseworthy work by teaching children the importance of cleanliness along with academics, said MLA Mohiuddin Bava.
He was speaking after inaugurating a cleanliness drive held by Bondel unit of Catholic Sabha on Wednesday October 2.
"We should not consider only our house as our surrounding. The city corporation can maintain cleanliness only if you cooperate with them," Bava said.
Fr Andrew D’ Souza of Bondel church administered an oath to the gathering that they would maintain cleanliness.
The programme of 'Clean Mangalore' by Catholic Sabha, Bondel unit started at KPT and proceeded via Yeyyadi and Padavinangadi to culminated in Kavoor. Local corporators Mahabala Marla, Rajesh and Deepak Poojary supervised.
Several organizations in Bondel church, schools in the area, KPT, ITI, Western Institute of Technology, Ramashrama schools, Mount Carmel, Vijayamary, Infant Jesus schools, St Lawerence schools, MGC schools, Women's Polytechnic and 1500 students from Besant Institution participated in the programme.
Street plays were held along the way. Mangalore city corporation, police department and public education department was involved in the programme. MLA Mohiuddin Bava said that the programme should be an example to others.
Lancy D’Cunha welcomed and Lancy Tauro thanked. Stany Alvares conducted the programme. Fr Patrick Sequeira, Rudy Pinto, health official Dr Manjayya Shetty, principals and headmasters of schools and colleges were present.
