Mangalore: State Bank of Mysore celebrates centenary with colourful event

Mangalore, Oct 2: State Bank of Mysore celebrated its ‘Centenary Year Day’ with a colourful event here on Wednesday October 2.
Founded by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar Bahadur, the then Maharaja of Mysore and the great visionary and engineer, Sir M Misvesvaraya, on October 2, 1913, the State Bank of Mysore celebrated its Centenary Year Day here by holding a ‘Centenary Walk’ from Alake to Hampankatta at Mangalore.
Over 600 staff, their family members and customers of Mangalore city and nearby branches participated in an hour long procession, which was inaugurated by Dr Shikaripura Krishnamurthy, retired professor and a senior customer of the Bank, who has won prestigious national and international awards for his role of Mahatma Gandhi in the Kannada film, ‘Koormavatara’, directed by Girish Kasaravalli.
In the centenary programme held at Dakshina Kannada District Government Employees’ Association hall, Dr Shikaripura Krishnamurthy delivered his inaugural address and called upon the people to adopt Gandhian principles and the vision and values of Sir M Visvesvaraya, founder of Mysore Bank. He recalled his memories with the Bank over decades and advised the staff to continue the excellent customer service being rendered now and wished all success for the century old bank.
The Bank also felicitated its 14 long-standing customers of Mangalore city and nearby branches, consisting senior citizens, ex-servicemen, social activists, NRIs, businessmen etc. While Eric Correa spoke on behalf of the customers, Paul Andrade and Austin Peris, spoke on behalf of retired officers and staff of the Bank.
M R Jayesha, deputy general manager, Mangalore zone presided over the function. Yogesh Karkera, zonal secretary, SBM Officers’ Association and Devadas Pai, joint secretary of SBM Employees’ Union, spoke on the occasion. While Ranganath welcomed the gathering, Attur Chaiyabba proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by S Sringeswara Sharma, assistant general manager. S Venugopal, assistant general manager-LCPC and U Diwakara Poojary, assistant general manager-CPPC were also on the dais.
Opening of Specialised NRI Branch in Mangalore
On the occasion of its centenary year, State Bank of Mysore is opening 101 branches throughout the country on October 5. In order to give focused attention for NRIs of Mangalore, SBM is opening a specialised NRI branch at Chilimbi, Mangalore on that day, apart from other 6 new branches in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. They are - Subrahmanya, Melkar, Vittal, Kadaba, Byloor and Tekkate.
