2 lawmakers, 15 others charge sheeted in Bharatpur violence

Jaipur, Sep 30 (IANS): The CBI Monday filed a charge sheet against 17 people including two legislators in the case of the 2011 communal violence in Bharatpur district that left 10 people dead, said a lawyer.

A.K. Jain, the lawyer of some of the accused, said that the charge sheet was filed in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate for CBI cases Mahendra Kumar Mehta.

BJP legislator Anita Singh and Congress legislator Zahida Khan, who represent Nagar and Kaman constituencies in Bharatpur respectively were among the 17 accused named in the charge sheet, Jain added

"Anita Singh, Zahida Khan and 10 others were accused of preventing public servants from carrying out their duties, while one man was charged with murder and other sections of the Indian Penal Code in the charge sheet. The remaining four were accused of attempting murder and rioting," he said.

The clash occurred Sep 14, 2011 over a piece of land, with one group claiming that it was for a burial centre and the other that it was for a pond. 40 people were also injured in the clash.

Anita Singh and Zahida Khan have been granted anticipatory bail by a court earlier as both were booked under non-cognizable and bailable offences, the lawyer said.
