Agra, Sep 28 (IANS): BJP general secretary Varun Gandhi Saturday accused the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh government of pursuing the politics of appeasement and said its mistakes will lead to its collapse.
Gandhi was addressing a meeting at the Sur Sadan auditorium here with party workers who were denied permission to hold a rally two weeks ago in the Jat-dominated Akola, 30 km from the Agra.
"Mayawati's over-confidence and pride brought her down. Now Akhilesh is repeating her mistakes," he said.
Gandhi said the state was burning and prohibitory orders were in force in half of the districts. "The BJP has to lead the state and the country and change the direction of politics."
The district administration agreed to allow Saturday's meeting with conditions, as prohibitory orders were in force in the Taj city.
A mobike rally earlier piloted Gandhi's cavalcade.
Gandhi scoffed at Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's promise of providing jobs to 15 lakh youths saying "apney parivar ke naujawanon ko rozgar diya hai" (jobs have been given to own family members).
Gandhi was cheered as he entered the hall for the meeting and the partymen kept chanting slogans all through his 50-minute speech laced with advice, witty comments and rhetoric.
