Patna, Sep 28 (IANS): A day after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi opposed an ordinance against disqualification of convicted lawmakers, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Saturday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take back the ordinance.
"It is not a question of prestige. The Congress-led UPA government should take back the ordinance immediately. If the PM withdraws the ordinance, it will enhance his prestige," Nitish Kumar told reporters here.
"Let the government put the issue in parliament for discussion," Nitish Kumar said, adding that Gandhi was right.
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and others demanded the resignation of the prime minister after Rahul Gandhi said the government's decision to pass the ordinance was "wrong".
"There was no need to bring an ordinance from the backdoor to protect convicted lawmakers from immediate disqualification," he said.
