Kasargod: 76-year-old sentenced to five years in jail for raping child

Kasargod, Sep 25: Kasargod district and sessions court has sentenced a 76-year-old to five years of imprisonment for raping a child. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on him.
A resident of Badiadka Kedenji, the accused K V Thomas had raped an 8-year-old girl in 2011.
The incident had occurred on August 28, 2011 evening when the child was coming back home from school. The man had taken the child to a nearby forest by offering her a chocolate and forced himself on her. Badiadka police had registered a case.
Sub inspector M Sreedharan had submitted the chargesheet to the court.
Thomas had requested for leniency in punishment considering his age and illness. The prosecution had argued that there should be no concession as sexual assaults are on the rise.
If he fails to pay the penalty of Rs 10,000, Thomas will have to undergo an additional three months imprisonment.
