Mangalore, Sep 25: "The district administration along with forest, mining and land departments should take strict action against the hundreds of acres of government land encroached upon and the stone quarry operated by Poabs Rock Mines at Murkugudde in Kadandale," said Sri Esha Vittaladasa Swamiji of Kemar Sandeepani Sadanashram.
He addressed the media persons during his visit to Kadandale, Moodbidri along with villagers on Tuesday September 24. After his visit, he commented on the quarrying activities carried out there and termed it a 'mini Bellary'.
The Swamiji said he noticed that the spot where the forest department had planted acacia saplings was full of gravel stones and powder. The dirty water from the place was joining the lake. Due to the stone quarrying activity at the spot, trees were found destroyed.
Because of the explosives used, the nearby houses have developed cracks on the walls and suffered other damages, said a local.
The high-tension lines of KPTCL passing through the area poses addition threat, said the locals.
As per the rule, the unit should be 500 metres away from the lake but this unit is just 50 metres away from Shambavi lake, the locals told the Swamiji. Paul D’Souza submitted the information collected by him over the past several months.
"We are not opposed to quarrying but this work looks unscientific. I am always ready to legally fight this matter along with Save Shambavi River committee. If needed, a new committee will be formed to bring justice to the people, said Swamiji.
