Udupi, Sep 25: "The indoor stadium which was inaugurated on August 20, 2011, and constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore, has been damaged and Rs 20 to 25 lac will be needed to repair it. Further, an investigation will be ordered into quality of the construction work and necessary action will be taken without showing any mercy," said Abhayachandra Jain, minister for youth services department and fisheries, on Tuesday September 24.
He addressed media persons after inspecting the synthetic track and Udupi indoor stadium.
"Even though our government is not responsible for the work, the money belongs to the government, hence there will be action taken against the persons concerned," he said.
He added that there are some problems at the Ajjarkad stadium such as lack of an entrance for an ambulance in emergency, water and light facilities, and in runway and take-off tracks.
He also said that a 25-meter swimming pool at Udupi at a cost of Rs 3.75 crore has been approved and the work will begin soon.
He appreciated Brahmavar Sports Club for its dedicated service in the sports field and said that the vanishing sport of ball badminton should be encouraged and a court will be constructed soon.
"There is a master plan for Manipal to start water sports or adventure sport. Officials said that it is the right place for water sports," Jain added.
"As a minister I give equal importance to Udupi, Mangalore, and Moodbidri," he stressed.
Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, Yuvraj, CMC president, Vikas Kumar, sports officer, M T Reju, DC, Amruth Shenoy, Jithendra Shetty, and M S Ramesh were present on the occasion.
