NIA team back in Goa within week

Panji, Sep 23 (TNN): Two officers of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived in Goa on Saturday night to verify leads given by Indian Mujahideen (IM) co-founder Yasin Bhatkal during his interrogation. This is NIA's second visit within a week to the state to investigate 'India's most-wanted terrorist's' Goa connection.

The team had arrived earlier, on September 15, with Bhatkal in tow, and had visited Anjuna where the Karnataka-native had stayed in rented premises.

They left on September 19, after recovering half-a-litre of a liquid chemical, some grey powder, glass tubes, measuring cylinder, a motorcycle and some cooking utensils from the premises.

The house owner had informed the NIA that though Bhatkal had rented the house for a year, from September 2011 to September 2012, he had stayed there for just three months. He had also told the house owner that he was a businessman and had come to Goa to start a new venture during the tourist season.

Police sources said the house owner had filled the mandatory Form C (tenant verification) with Bhatkal's identification proof-he had provided his election card-but had not submitted the form to the police. Bhatkal is a native of Bhatkal in Karnataka which is around 200km from Goa.
