Kundapur, Sep 21: Kalavathi U S from CPM party was elected as president of Kundapur municipality for the seventh term. Nagaraj Rao from BJP has been elected as the vice president.
For the post of vice president, Nagaraj Kamadhenu and Chandrashekar Kharvi from Congress had submitted nominations.
As BJP and Haladi Srinivas Shetty supporters were supporting Nagaraj Rao, he secured 13 votes and Chandrashekar obtained 12 votes. Hence Nagaraj was elected as the vice president. The post was meant for backward class.
Speaking to media persons, president Kalavathi said, “I will work effectively with support from members of all political parties’. Priority will be given to major problems of cleanliness.”
Developmental works will be undertaken step by step with feedback from members, she added.
Vice president Nagaraj said, “We are different parties only during election. But when it comes to development, we will work together. We wish to work for the all-round development of the municipality along with the president.”
Tahsildar Gayathri Nayak was present as the election officer. MP Jayaprakash Heggde, MLA Halaadi Srinivas Shetty among others were present.
