Puttur: Youth who pulled student's hair thrashed for harassing another girl

Puttur, Sep 21: The youth who was accused of pulling the hair of a girl who was studying in Uppinangady Government First Grade College, now finds himself involved in a harassment case. This time, he allegedly harassed a girl belonging to his community and was later beaten up by the public.
The student, Ranjith, had earlier pulled the hair of girl belonging to Muslim community in his college. The incident led to protest and and a case was filed against him in Uppinangady police station. Acting on the complaint, police had booked him.
Later, a few people in support of Ranjith staged a protest and alleged that false case was booked against him. The case took a political turn giving rise to clash between BJP and Congress. Meanwhile, a few of the political leaders had visited Ranjith’s house where they even offered money to his family members, sources said.
Ranjith who was kept in judicial custody was later released on bail.
After his release, Ranjith preferred to stay home. MLA Shakuntala Shetty visited him and convinced him to attend classes.
Now, three weeks after Ranjith rejoined college, he continued his past behavior when he used to call and message a girl belonging to his own community, allegedly using obscene words.
The girl had informed her parents about Ranjith’s behavior. On Friday, Ranjith had asked the girl to meet him in a hotel in Uppinangady. The girl’s family who were aware of the meeting, waited for Ranjith near the hotel and thrashed him in front of the public. Later he was handed over to police.
When the girl student came forward to give a complaint, it is learnt that the police released Ranjith with a warning.
