Thieves strike Karkala again, loot gold, cash worth Rs 18 lac

Karkala, Sep 20: In yet another incident of theft, thieves broke into Santhosh Jewellery store located in Kabettu on Wednesday September 18 night and took away cash and gold worth Rs 18 lac.
The thieves used a gas cutter to enter the workshop located behind the shop which manufactures. They then made drilled a hole on the wall and entered the jewellery store. With the use of a gas cutter, they broke the locker and took away gold jewellery.
Gold worth Rs 17 lac and Rs 75,000 worth of silver ornaments was stolen. Two years back, in the same store, two youths had stolen a gold necklace when the shop was crowded. They were later caught due to the alertness of the salesgirl who had the presence of mind to click their photo on her camera, which helped the police in tracking them down.
The gas cutter and cylinder used in the theft were left at the theft spot. The thieves also took away CCTV and DVR which indicated that the thieves were professionals.
The incident came to light when the store employees opened the shop on Thursday.
Karkala ASI P Annamalai, circle inspector Valentine D’Souza, SI Pramod investigated the spot.
District SP Borlingayya, additional SP Santhosh Kumar visited Karkala in the evening and held discussion with police officials.
On Tuesday night, thieves threw chilly powder on a jewellery store owner when he was about to close the shop and took away gold weighing 1.4 kg. The police were successful in catching three of the accused in a quick operation.
