Dharamsala, Sep 19 (IANS): Tibetan prime minister Lobsang Sangay Thursday reaffirmed the commitment of his government-in-exile to pursue the "middle-way approach" - more autonomy to the region under the Chinese constitution, describing it as the only way forward to resolve the issue.

"In view of changing situation in Tibet and the world, the Kashag (Tibetan cabinet) clearly recognises the middle-way approach as the only solution to resolve the problem of Tibet," Sangay informed the parliament, whose session began Wednesday.

He said the growing spotlight on Tibet and support from the international community has resulted from "our pursuit of middle-way approach in the interest of both Chinese and Tibetan people".

Sangay said the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) will organise programmes and conferences to raise awareness of the international community, including Tibetans and Chinese people, on the middle-way approach.

"Though there is a right to have political stands in a free and democratic society, it is immoral to make baseless and unrealistic criticism and denigration of others' stand. The Kashag will not hesitate and spare no efforts in dealing with such criticisms in its pursuit of middle-way approach and those who denigrate His Holiness, the Dalai Lama," said Sangay, the the political successor of the Dalai Lama.

The Dalai Lama has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959. The Tibetan exile administration is based in this northern Indian hill town. It is not recognised by any country in the world.
