Mangalore, Sep 19: A theft of valuables worth several lacs of rupees was reported from Vidyanagara in Ullal in the early hours of Thursday September 19.
The robbers who entered the house belonging to Kamlesh Patel late in the night decamped with cash and jewellery valued at Rs 10 lac.
Patel belongs to Gujarat by origin and has been staying in Ullal for the last 40 years. He runs a tobacco business here.
The thieves who entered the house between 1 am and 2 am took away cash from the purses belonging to Patel, his son, daughter and wife and from the cupboard, totally amounting to Rs 25,000 and diamonds and gold weighing 500 grams valued at Rs 10 lac.
Possibility of having used chloroform
The thieves entered by the back door by breaking the latch and entered the room where five people including Kamalesh Patel’s mother was sleeping. Besides that, their dog was also set loose.
As the dog was silent and the family were unaware when the thieves took the valuables, it is suspected that the culprits might have used chloroform during the theft. Besides that, people at Patel household had suffered from throat and eye pain and dysentery when they got up, said their family doctor.
A case has been registered in Ullal police station.
