12 kg gold seized at Goa airport


Panaji, Sep 18 (IANS): Customs officials in Goa seized 12 kilograms of gold bars from two Sri Lankans Wednesday, a customs official said.

The value of the gold seized is Rs.3.60 crore in the international market, and it is the biggest haul of gold seized in Goa in recent times, the official said.

The gold was found stashed under two seats of an Air India plane which had arrived from Dubai via Mumbai, Customs and Central Excise Commissioner for Goa region V.P. Rao told reporters here.

The Sri Lankas were identified as Zuhar Shike Suleiman and Mohamed Riyaz Mohamed Niyaz, Rao said.
