Mangalore: 2010 gang-rape - Two found guilty, one acquitted

Mangalore, Sep 18: The fourth additional district and sessions court has sentenced two accused for the gang-rape of a 15-year-old Odisha girl. The incident took place at Central railway station here on July 14, 2010.
The accused Ashok (26) from Kemmane and Nishith (22) from Attavar were found guilty, while the third accused Abdul Sattar (25) was acquitted by the court.
Sattar was accused of helping the main accused in the gang-rape. The fourth accused Sameesh has been absconding ever since the crime took place.
The court will award the sentence on Thursday, September 19.
A 15-year-old girl from Odisha was employed at the house of Emilda Farais as a domestic help. She escaped when Emilda had been to attend the mass in church. The girl was sitting on a bench at the Central railway station waiting for a train. One among accused, on noticing that the girl was alone, asked her where she planned to go. She said that she was waiting for at train to Goa. Under the pretext of helping her to catch the Goa train, he took her on Pondicherry train's 7th compartment, where he and two other men raped her. She was later found in an unconsious state by a cleaning lady, who informed the authorities.
With the help of childline, the case was registered in railway police station. Investigation was taken up by the then inspector Vittadas Pai.
All the four accused were employed in the railway station. Ashok was working as box boy with a station contractor, Nishith was a helper in the mechanical department, Abdul Sattar was a vendor of food in the train and the missing Sameesh worked in railway's signal.
