Wrecked cruise liner in Italy raised

Giglio (Italy), Sep 17 (IANS/ITAR -TASS): The operation to raise the wrecked cruise liner Costa Concordia was completed Tuesday, Franco Gabrielli, the head of Italy's Civil Protection Authority, said after a 19-hour-long operation at the Italian island of Giglio.

The ship has been put onto its platform, he said.

The Concordia, a 290-metre-long liner, carrying more than 4,000 passengers and crew capsized Jan 13, 201, resulting in the loss of 32 lives, after it struck rocks at Giglio.

The ship had remained half-submerged on a rock shelf ever since.
