Kasargod comes to a halt following CPM worker's murder

Kasargod, Sep 17: Kasargod came to a standstill on Tuesday Septmber 17, following the murder of a CPM worker on the night of Monday September 16 at Uduma Mangad here.
CPM worker M B Balakrishna (45), a tempo driver by profession, was allegedly killed when he was returning home by bike. At around 9 pm, miscreants waylaid his bike near a school and stabbed him before fleeing the spot.
A few locals who found Balakrishna lying in a pool of blood rushed him to Kasargod hospital where he breathed his last sometime later.
The body was shifted to Pariyaram Medical College hospital.
Following the incident, minor clashes erupted at the spot, but the situation was quickly brought under control.
On Tuesday, entire Kasargod observed a bandh, with shops remaining closed and buses and other vehicles staying off the road. Kasargod will remain closed till 6 pm.
Tight police security has been deployed to prevent untoward incidents. Additional police forces have been called from Kannur and other places.
Meanwhile, the CPM blamed Muslim League and Congress for orchestrating the murder.
SP Thomson Jose, DSP Mohan Chandran visited the crime spot.
A case has been registered in Bekal police station.
