Seoul, Sep 16 (IANS): North and South Korea Monday resumed operations at the Kaesong industrial complex, five months after the economic co-operation project was suspended amid political tension.
In a sign of improving inter-Korean relations, many South Korean companies in the complex were expected to start trial run and workers from the north side have been asked to return to work, local media quoted the unification ministry as saying.
Seoul and Pyongyang Sep 11 agreed to reopen the joint factory park in the North Korea border town of Kaesong after agreeing on several institutional tools, reported Xinhua.
The two Koreas kicked off third round of joint management committee negotiations. The committee will be in charge of running the factory park.
Unlike before, Seoul will have an equal say in the matters of the zone.
The two sides have agreed to adopt an electronic system to control the passage of South Korean personnel to and from Kaesong through the radio frequency identification technology.
