Assault by Puttur constables: Rai orders suspension, transfer of policemen

Puttur, Sep 16: A day after two Sampya police constables allegedly assaulted a truck driver from Haryana, district incharge minister B Ramanath Rai instructed superintendent of police to suspend the constables and also transfer two other police constables based on complaint from the public.
Rai was addressing the media during his visit to Puttur. Rai asked SP Abhishek Goyal to suspend police constables Dayanand and Harish who allegedly assaulted truck driver Mohammed Nazir, and to transfer Gangadhar and Ramesh against whom the people complained.
He also said that the government will not tolerate such unnecessary violence against people. "Although the government has changed there is a need to change a few officials in police and other departments, and I will speak to the chief minister regarding this. In some of the police stations police are trying to spoil communal harmony," he said.
" A few police personnel are trying to bring bad name to the government. If any policeman is found guilty of committing a mistake, the government will immediately take appropriate action against the person as per law."
Rai further said, “Earlier Kalladka was 'in charge' here but now the person in charge is Ramanath Rai. Government will never tolerate attempts to disrupt communal harmony. Whoever tries to disrupt peace will be dealt with strictly by the government. If any persons faces problem from police, he or she can directly contact me. Everyone should join hands in maintaining peace in the district."
MLA Shakunthala Shetty calls for probe
MLA Shakunthala Shetty who was also present called for a probe against the police constables who reportedly levelled false charges against members of the public and got admitted to hospital, and also against those who supported them.
Shakunthala Shetty also asked Ramanath Rai to transfer the police constables who have been rendering duty in the same police station from past several years.
ZP member M S Mohammed, Puttur block Congress president Kavu Hemanatha Shetty and others were present.
