Kundapur, Sep 13: Ganeshotsava celebration turned tragic for a 56-year-old man when he accidentally slipped and fell into a pond on Wednesday September 11. His body was found on Friday September 13.
The deceased has been identified as Babanna Poojary, a resident of Kodi-Kanyana (Parampally).
Babanna was on his way to participate in a Ganeshotsava celebration. However, due to rain, he slipped and fell into the pond near a school.
On Wednesday evening, he told his wife that he would be going to participate in the Ganeshotsava procession and left the house. However, he did not return home, and growing anxious about his safety, his wife and other family members began a search for him. However, their efforts went in vain.
On Friday morning, a few locals noticed a body floating in the pond near a school and informed the police.
The news spread, and soon it was ascertained that the body was that of Babanna Poojary.
It is worth mentioning that though many curious locals gathered at the spot to see the body floating in the pond, none of them came foward to bring the body ashore. Even as they stood watching, zilla panchayat education and health local committee president Ganapati T Sriyan arrived and instantly dived into the pond and lifted the body out. The police too arrived and inspected.
The body was shifted to Kota hospital for post-mortem.
Kota police have registered a case.
