'Leave us alone, my son will die soon'

New Delhi, Sep 13 (IANS): "Are you people happy now? Now leave us alone, my son will die soon," the mother of Vinay Sharma said in a sudden show of aggression to reporters soon after the court announced its verdict. Soon after, she fainted.

None of the other residents were speaking to the media who had descended in hordes with television crews outside this shantytown, inhabited mostly by working class people who are too poor to afford proper housing and settled for this makeshift "camp" in the south Delhi neighbourhood of R K Puram that has mostly housing meant for government employees .

Residents of Ravi Dass Camp were glued to the television as a Delhi court pronounced its verdict.

Just as the district court, Saket pronounced the death penalty on Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, Mukesh and Akshay Kumar in the Dec 16 gang rape case, a silence hung over the colonyl. Barring Akshay, the other three belong to the colony.

The pradhan, or head of the Camp, Bihari Lal told IANS: "All the four are very young. They should not be given the death penalty. They should be given a chance to reform themselves."

Raju, a neighbour of Sharma, told IANS: "He (Sharma) is so young. I have seen him grow up here. It will be tough to see him go to the gallows."

Many people from nearby areas gathered at Ravi Dass Camp out of curiosity.

Surendra Mohan, a resident of Sector-1, R.K. Puram, said that he has known Sharma since he was a child.

"His innocent face never given me an inkling that he would be commit such a heinous crime at such a young age. I support the court's decision. As the accused did not show mercy to the victim the court's decision is perfect," Mohan told IANS.

Sharma's childhood friend Rajesh told IANS: "It would have been better if Vinay and the others had been given life imprisonment instead of death penalty. It will be terrible to see one of my close friends dying at such a young age, especially as he was about to get married this May."

Another friend of Sharma, Rahul, told IANS: "We are shocked at the court decision. We did not expect this."

This lady didnt feel anything when an innocent girl died at the hands of four beasts, one of them being her son. She feels sad only for her son. If she had taken care in her upbringing in the formative years, this incident probably couldnt have happened. What does she have to say for the immense pain Nirbhaya's parents are going through and will go through the same for the rest of their lives. Vinay is being punished for the heinous crime committed by him but Nirbhaya suffered for no fault of hers.

These four rapists are not human beings but monsters (rakshasas). So death sentence is the minimum punishment for them.

Forgiveness has no meaning in this case.
Ram Singh did the right thing by killing himself.
    Rest are also not saints.
They were present in agreement when all happened in front of them and never tried to stop each other.
    These are monsters.
Having said all the above may be one or two could have been sentenced to life imprisonment in full without parole.

Death penalty is all that these rapists deserve at this moment, I can understand what the mother is feeling now, but we should not forget what the mother of the victim felt seeing her innocent girl suffering on the death bed. I don't think life time imprisonment would help. what's the point keeping such beasts alive and feeding them. there is no place for such heinous men in this society. they just need to go....

The judgement should continue to other culprits also. Some people are saying these culprits are too young to die, but they are not saying they were too young to commit the crime?. they acted like mad dogs and mad dogs should be killed instantly. Lifetime imprisonment is waste of tax payers money.

    "Are you people happy now?.
No we are not happy until all involved in the crime are hanged till death. No way they should get a chance to live. You being a mother ask yourself what if your own daughter was raped and killed that way? will you forgive and let go?.

An eye for an eye and a life for life is primitive, in which way the law is different from the action of the accused , the act committed by them nodoubt is heinous, but they should be given rigorous punishment and not daeth which becomes an eyeopener to all future perpetrators of such crimes , some one's death should not be our cup of tea , then in which way law is different from lawlessness shown by the accused

This guy is married but still was the culprit in committing rape. This proves that it was a revenge than lust. They should show their behaviours on TV to tell others what may be happening on the minds of people who will die any moment may be this will also to some extent stop rapes.

Even the women in the family of Rapists have no repentance, which shows that - if the Honorable Court had not given rapists death penalty, then many more such beasts would have taken birth in that Shanty colony called R.K.Puram, which seems to be a fertile breeding ground for mosquitoes and Criminals just like Dharavi of Mumbai and Shivaji Nagar of Bengaluru.
