Jaipur, Sep 13 (IANS): A male nurse was arrested Friday for raping a 35-year-old prisoner while she was admitted at a government hospital in Rajasthan, police said.

According to the police, the incident occurred at the government hospital in Alwar, some 150 km from Jaipur.

"The female prisoner was suffering from fever and had been admitted in the female ward of the hospital yesterday (Thursday). There were three women constables for security," said police inspector Rajpal Singh.

He said that the male nurse, Gurbaksh, 30, took her to an isolated place on pretext of giving her some medicine around 3 a.m. Friday.

"The woman says that he raped her after gagging her. An investigation has been launched what the three women constables were doing when the accused man took her from her bed. It seems they were sleeping," said the officer.

After returning, the victim told one of the constables following which Gurbaksh was taken into custody, the officer said.

"He has been arrested and booked for rape," said the officer.
