Udupi: Brahmavar bandh on Sep 19 over NH 66 widening work

Udupi, Sep 12: Heddari Ulisi committee has released a letter regarding the September 19 Brahmavar bandh call in protest against the traffic problems arising out of the widening work on NH 66. The bandh will urge the concerned to either construct a flyover or a surface level road in Brahmavar.
The committee has requested to pause activities in Varamballi, Handadi, Chantaru and Haradi gram panchayat areas on that day.
There will be a public meeting at 10 am and the highway will be blocked from 11 am to 12 am. There will also be a protest rally after that to the office of Brahmavar special tahsildar.
The letter includes detailed attempt of the Heddari Ulisi committee highlighting the traffic chaos created by the widening of the road. The committee strongly opposed the present design employed in the highway widening process and termed it as 'dangerous'.
Ten thousand copies of the letter are printed and the letter will be posted to every house and associations in the four panchayat areas, said committee convenor B Govindaraj Hegde in a press conference called in Brahmavara Ashraya hotel.
Unstable situation of traffic
The underpass in Brahmavar has made us aware of the chaos in traffic. It is a question of our future. If the work continues, we will have to face the problem permanently. So the bandh is held with the support of local organizations and students, said convenor B Govindaraj Hegde.
Leaders of associations, H Sudarshan Hegde, Raju Poojary, Thimmappa Hegde, Vittal Poojary, Madamakki Shashidhar Shetty, Derick D’ Souza, M Chandrashekar Hegde, Ratnakar Shetty, Manjunath Poojary and others were present.
