Kolkata police launches 'No Honking' campaign

Kolkata, Sep 9 (IANS): In a bid to sensitise people against unnecessary blowing of vehicle horns, Kolkata Police along with hundreds of school children Monday launched a "No Honking" campaign.

Around 2,500 school children fanned out across 100 crossings during peak hours in the city, displaying bright yellow placards that said "No Honking".

"In countries like ours, sensitivity about honking is very low. So we are taking the initial step of generating awareness and sensitivity," said Kolkata Police Commissioner Surajit Kar Purkayastha.

"The best way to do this is by involving school children, because the moment a child is involved, her/his parents, guardians, driver etc. are also sensitised," he added.
