Srinagar, Sep 7 (IANS): Life in Jammu and Kashmir summer capital Srinagar and other major towns of the Valley was affected Saturday because of the separatist shutdown call to protest against the concert conducted by Zubin Mehta.

Markets, public transport, other businesses and educational institutions remained closed in Srinagar city and other major towns of the Valley because of the protest shutdown, called by senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani. The concert, called "Ehsas-e-Kashmir" (Feel of Kashmir) is being held Saturday evening at the Shalimar Garden on the banks of the Dal Lake.

Only a few private vehicles were seen plying in Srinagar and other towns of the Valley, though banks, government offices and post offices functioned as usual.

Authorities did not impose any restrictions in the Valley Saturday, although security forces were deployed in strength to keep vigil and maintain law and order.
