Mangalore, Sep 6: National conference on advanced IT, engineering and management was held at AIMIT, St Aloysius College, here on September 5, 6.
Dr P Chandramohan, vice chancellor, Yenepoya University was the chief guest and Fr Denzil Lobo SJ Rector, St Aloysius College Institutions and director, AIMIT, presided over the ceremony.
Professor Santhosh Rebello, dean of PG department of information technology and bioinformatics, professor Santhosh B, convener, and professor Suchetha Vijay, organizing secretary were the other dignitaries on the dais. Fr Pradeep Sequira SJ, administrator and finance minister, AIMIT, Dr Mariadoss and Vincent Mascarenhas, the chairpersons for the conference were also present on this occasion.
The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer song led by the college choir. Professor Santhosh Rebello welcomed the gathering.
The conference was formally inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
Assistant professor Lanwin Lobo introduced the chief guest.
In his inaugural address, chief guest Dr P Chandramohan emphasized on the importance of research in academics and threw light on where the gap between the requirement and availability is. He also shared about the contributions of the three branches of science in the knowledge based civilization, being information and communication technology, biotechnology and nanotechnology.
Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, director of AIMIT, in his address, spoke about the working of minds, its creative thinking ability. He then quoted Ian Parson that by 2040 there will be a backup of human brain in a computer. He also shared that logic will take you from A to Z but imagination will take you anywhere. He advised students to let their imaginations lead to creative actionable ideas which lead to innovation. He signed off with the quotation of Swami Vivekananda “Take up an idea as your own. Live that idea and love that idea.”
This was followed by the release of the proceedings of the national conference by the chief guest and the dignitaries.
Fr Denzil Lobo SJ presented a memento to the chief guest, Dr P Chandramohan, as a token of gratitude and appreciation.
Professor Santhosh B proposed vote of thanks. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the college anthem, led by the college choir.
