New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS): Indian Railways has decided to install a new fuel saving device in diesel locomotives which will result in saving over Rs. 60 crore annually, an official said Thursday.
To begin with, the auxiliary power unit (APU) has been installed in 12 existing diesel locomotives through retrofitment.
"In future, Indian Railways plan to fit APU in all newly built diesel locomotives which will then result in saving of more than Rs. 60 crore annually," the official said.
"Use of the device also results in reducing carbon emission by the train engine," he added.
