New Delhi, Sep 5 (NDTV): Former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda, the main accused in the suicide of airhostess Geetika Sharma, has got a month's bail to attend an assembly session.
Kanda, 47, has been in jail for over 14 months on charges of abetting the suicide of 23-year-old Geetika, a former employee in his MDLR airlines.
The court asked the legislator from Sirsa to furnish a personal bond of Rs. 5 lakh and imposed several curbs including a ban on foreign travel.
In court, the police had opposed his bail saying they had reason to believe that the former minister was tampering with evidence.
Kanda's lawyer argued that police investigation was complete and there was no reason for the police to worry.
Geetika, who started working for Kanda when she was 17, was found dead in August last year at her home in northwest Delhi.
In her suicide note, she said she was ending her life due to "harassment" by Kanda and his close aide Aruna Chaddha.
Geetika's mother Anuradha also committed suicide in February this year leaving behind two notes in which she blamed Kanda and Ms Chaddha for driving her daughter to suicide.
Geetika's family alleges that the former minister exploited her, blackmailed her and forced her to work for him even when she left him.
