Nashik, Sep 4 (PTI): Ten youngsters, including four girls, working as trainees in a company were on Tuesday arrested for allegedly driving their 19-year-old female colleague to suicide.
The victim, Pranali Pradeep Rane, a resident of Indira Nagar locality in Nashik, had allegedly tried to end her life on Sunday night. She was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries at a hospital on Tuesday.
She worked as a trainee in a Satpur-based company and was allegedly harassed and ragged by 10 trainees, including four girls, continuously.
Fed up with this, Pranali on Sunday night first slashed her wrist and then hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her house when she was alone.
Later, her father Pradeep Rahane, a plumber by profession, found her hanging and immediately rushed her to a hospital where she died today.
The girl left a note which purportedly mentioned that she was harassed and ragged by her colleagues which prompted her to take the extreme step. The note was handed over to the police by the deceased's father.
Police have booked the ten accused under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC and section 4 of Maharashtra Ragging Act.
The victim's father alleged that her daughter was bright and she was selected to go to Germany for further training by the company. Her colleagues were jealous of her and, therefore, they used to harass her.
The accused and the victim were doing apprenticeship at the company following completion of industrial training after passing from class tenth.
The ten arrested accused, all in the age group of 18-19 years, have been identified as - Bhooshan Paradeshi, Abhijit Bhor, Vishal Korade, Amit Pawar, Swapnil Sonawane, Shweta Shinde, Tejaswini Birari, Shubhada Kajale, Neha Sonawane and Harshal Patil.
The accused were produced in a local court and remanded in police custody till September 7.
