New Delhi, Feb 15: A television news channel on Tuesday claimed the phone of a sitting Judge of the Supreme Court was tapped in September 2005.
The BJP has termed it as serious and it will raise the issue in the Parliament.
The Zee News claimed it was in possession of material to show the MTNL mobile phone of Justice S N Variava, who retired a month later, was tapped.
When contacted, Supreme Court Registrar General V K Jain said "I am not aware of it".
Demanding a probe into the matter, BJP said it will raise the issue in Parliament whose budget session begins on Thursday.
BJP spokesperson and former Union Law Minister Arun Jaitley said tapping of the phone of a judge was a serious issue and should be looked into immediately.
MTNL CMD R S P Sinha was not available for comments as he was away in Barcelona to attend an International Conference on mobile phones.
