Bangalore, Aug 27: The Congress' victory march continues in the state—this time in the
Legislative election held for three seats of Karnataka’s Upper House.
In the much awaited by poll election for legislative council, the BJP-KJP suffered a huge setback, despite support from JD(S) and failed to win even a single seat out of three.
Dharmasena, Nagaraj and Raghu
The Congress has won two seats and another was won by an independent candidate.
In the Upper House Mysore-Chamarajnagar, Hubli-Dharwad areas, the Congress has achieved victory. But in Chitradurga-Davangere, an independent candidate triumphed.
In Mysore-Chamarajnagar, Congress candidate Dharmasene won by securing 3,779 votes against KJP candidate Shekar who got 2,611 votes.
Pradeep Shettar, sibling of former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, lost the election from Hubli-Dharwad. Out of the total 7,272 votes cast, Congress candidate Nagaraj Chabbi won by securing 3,481 votes while BJP candidate Pradeep Shettar secured second place with 3,436 votes.
In Chitradurga-Davangere constituency, out of the total 5,071 votes cast, an independent candidate won with 1,753 votes.
On the whole, the effort made by BJP, KJP, and JD(S) jointly to defeat Congress in the Upper House by-poll election did not give positive results and instead has demoralized them.
