Islamabad, Aug 25 (IANS): Pakistani officials said Sunday that Indian troops killed a Pakistani woman in the latest cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
An Indian mortar shell landed on a house in Nikyal sector early Sunday, also injuring a child and damaging the house, Xinhua quoted Ayub Khan, the area's assistant commissioner, as saying.
Khan said Indian troops resorted to unprovoked shelling on civilian houses near the LoC, which divides the two countries in Kashmir.
The exchange of fire has escalated along the LoC in recent days despite a ceasefire declared by both countries in 2003. Both countries accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.
