Sonia expresses anguish over Mumbai gang-rape

New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS): Congress President Sonia Gandhi Saturday expressed concern and anguish over the gruesome gang-rape of the 22-year-old photojournalist in Mumbai two days ago.

"It is a heinous crime...It should not have happened," Gandhi said, while interacting with reporters after the inauguration of the National Media Centre here.

A 22-year-old photojournalist working for an English magazine was raped by five men in Mumbai's Shakti Mills compound Thursday. She was accompanied by a male colleague, who was brutally thrashed by the assailants.

The photojournalist suffered grievous internal injuries.

Every rape is heinous crime...should not happen.Simply lip service, burning candles elsewhere in the country in support of the victim will not servce the purpose.
We need fast track courts with MODIfied laws like death penalty to be implemented quickly.Thats all..... Rape means more than a death for the victim.Death is once for all but for rape victim it is a daily death......
