Mangalore: Police solve four theft cases, recover stolen booty

Mangalore, Aug 21: Mangalore city police commissioner Manish Karbikar on Wednesday August 21 briefed media about four theft incidents tackled by police officials and the valuables recovered by them.
Addressing a press meet at his office, Manish Karbiker said that in one theft case, a worker employed with gold jewellery manufacturer looted 3 kg 44 grams of gold and fled to Rajasthan. Police have arrested the accused Sagar Gehlot.
The accused after looting gold had fled to Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The DK police with the help of Ahmedabad Navarangpur police arrested him and recovered gold jewellery weighing 3.402 kg and Rs 80,000 cash.
Out of the stolen gold, Sagar had sold 72 grams, which was also recovered by the police.
Thieves cheat woman
In another case, the city police arrested a person who, with the help of an accomplice, cheated a woman from Falnir by selling her fake statues, stating that the statues were antique pieces. His accomplice is still on the run.
The woman who blindly believed them purchased 7 idols for Rs 14 lac on August 20. As per the information obtained, the accused Siddique and Abdul Razaq had purchased the statues from a local shop in the city for Rs 3 lac and sold it for Rs 14 lac.
A case was registered by the woman in Mangalore south police station.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested Siddique (39) from Ujire while Abdul Razaq is absconding.
Fake idols
In another robbery case, a person named Valerian Charles from Moodushedde had been to Rosario church for prayer service on August 18. As soon Charles reached the church gate, another person approached him and introduced himself as his 'classmate'.
He then took him near railway gate in Hoige Bazaar, where he along with two other associates attacked him and looted a gold chain worth Rs 65,000, Samsung S3 phone worth Rs 25,000, Rs 5,000 cash and an ICICI Bank ATM card.
The police who undertook the investigation arrested three persons on August 21 near Attavar railway gate. The arrested are identified as Sharukh, Shaukat and Mohammed Hameer.
The police recovered all the valuables stolen from the accused along with the motorcycle and phones used by the thieves in the act. Another accused Tanzil is said to be absconding.
Theft at jewellery store
Night patrolling undertaken by Panambur ACP Ravikumar at Moodbidri along with other police personnel helped nab thieves who had broken into a jewellery store, even before they could flee with the booty.
At around 4 am, the police stopped their patrolling vehicle to question two persons who were found near Hanuman Temple at Moodbidri. However, on seeing the police both of them fled from the scene. The police alerted Moodbidri SI A K Thimmaiah and PSI Ramesh. With the help of other police personnel, the police caught the thieves and recovered the booty which was thrown into the bushes. In the bag, nearly 675 gram of jewellery was found.
Accordingly, the police registered the case. Later, the seized jewellery was reported to have belonged to Laksmi Jewellers, which the thieves had burgled using gas cutter. The police successfully recovered the stolen valuables minutes after the theft was reported.
