Mangalore, Aug 21: A retired petty officer of Indian navy, Alwyn D’ Souza along with ICMY Mangalore dioceses organized a ‘salute and honor’ programme to pay a tribute to the great soldiers who lost their life in the tragic INS Sindhurakshak explosion.
Commodore Cyril David Pereira after lighting the lamp ceremony, as an honor to the departed great soldiers said “the death of 18 soldiers in INS Sindhurakshak explosion is a huge loss to the nation as well to their families and loved ones.”
He also said, “We honor and salute the brave hearts who sacrificed their life for our country and we will always remember their contribution and sacrifices.”
“We will be always thankful to these soldiers who died as they performed their duty”, he added.
On this occasion Commodore Cyril David Pereira offered a cheque of Rs 20,000 to the nuns of the ‘Little Sisters of the Poor’.
The ICYM Mangalore diocese director Fr Ronald D’ Souza, corporators Naveen D’ Souza, Mahabala Marla, Lancelot Pinto, ICYM Mangalore Diocese president Sheldon Crasta, Alwyn D’ Souza of Pezar deanery and others were present on the dais.
Titus Noronha delivered the vote thanks and was grateful to the organizers of the programme.
