Mangalore, Aug 19: Parent- teachers association of Besant Women’s college had organized a annual general body meeting on Saturday the August 17 at the college auditorium.
Fr Francis Almeda, campus minister and Vice principal of Aloysius Evening College was the guest of honour. Addressing gathering he said, " today children are facing five major problems, those are , because of small families there is no interaction with people which is leading to lack of socializing thus they are failing to trust others ,parents find it difficult to provide for even two children due to professional and financial stress leading to negligence towards children’s activity.
"Over exposure to television media which is increasing consumerist attitude and greed to poses more things, inability to manage failure which is leading to suicides and absconding from homes, parental incompatibility which is becoming responsible to seek happiness and intimacy out side family," he said.
He suggested, an open communication and value modeling by parents will help curb the negative effects of modern day living on the teenagers. Treating girls and boys equal and considering the college going children as friends by listening to them, encouraging them to do their works on their own and encourage them to take decisions will be a great contribution to their personality, he opined.
Dr Manjula K T former principal was felicitated during the meeting. Responding to the felicitation she said the PTA association had contributed greatly for The College to acquire ‘A’ grade by NACC .
The NAAC team had appreciated the parents who were most co-operative and contended with the other two components namely the teachers and the management of Besant College. She requested the PTA members who had gathered in large numbers to help the college in becoming self financed in days to come by finding philanthropists as the government is reducing fund allocation year after year.
Benedicta Mathias was elected as the president and Prakash Pai was elected as the vice president of PTA Committee for this year.
Mohan Nayak, the correspondent, presided over, out going president Cinthia D’souza welcomed, professor Pushpalatha, the principal presented the curricular and extra curricular events planned for this year. Ganesh Pai of dept of History and Dr Nalini M S of dept of Sociology conducted the elections.
