Mangalore, Aug 17: "Congress Seva Dal is recognized as a role model to the society because of its sincerity, discipline, and social work. the Congress activists should be aware of this while they involve in any party work," said B Janradhana Poojary former union minister.
He was addressing a gathering after initiating a two-day district-level training camp programme organized by Congress Seva Dal. He inaugurated the event by spinning a 'charkha' and lighting the lamp at the Bharath Scouts Bhavan at Pilikula on Friday August 16.
"This organization was initiated during the freedom struggle for the service of the country and today it is still engaged in social service. If individuals cultivate sincerity, discipline and obedience, power arises on its own. Identify yourself in social service and later make the decision to enter the political scenario," he advised.
"When I was holding the post of the Indian Congress chief secretary for 7 years I gave importance to discipline. Discipline should be our commitment," he added.
"As political independence is vital for the nation, economic independence is also very essential. During the time of struggle for Indian Independence there was a population of 30 crore in the country. There was scarcity for clothing and food. The present population of India has risen up to 130 crore. The country has developed a lot since then. Several changes have also occurred," he said
Indirectly targeting the Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, Poojary also mentioned that one of chief ministers had claimed that 'Congress has not done any work'.
"When we see India’s GDP for the past 5 years, there is a progress of 8%. Other nations have attained growth only by 1 % or even less. Our achievements in information technology, educational sector, medicine and others are lauded by people of other countries," he added.
Seva Dal state convener B Vishwanath, state KPCC member Harikrishna Bantwal, state women convener Sujatha Ullal were present on the dais.
DK convener Haji H M Ashraf delivered the introductory message.
Around 170 activists from various places like Sullia, Beltangady, Mulky and Vittal participated in the camp.
