Puttur, Aug 14: The Puttur 5th additional sessions court has ordered a man to marry the girl he had allegedly stabbed after her father opposed their marriage.
Harish, a resident of Hosadurg was in love with Soumya from Sullia. However, Soumya's father Narayan had opposed their marriage and told Harish to wait until Soumya finished her education. On May 10, 2011, in a fit of anger, Harish barged into Soumya's house and allegedly stabbed her with a knife.
A case was registered against him in Sullia police station. Harish was then arrested and sent to judicial custody. He was later released.
Meanwhile, despite being stabbed, the girl continued to love Harish, and their relationship became stronger. On December 12, 2012, the couple eloped and got married in a temple. Narayan said in the court that his daughter had run away with Harish.
Harish and Soumya were later asked to depose before the court. During the hearing, Soumya told the court that Harish did not stab her but it was her father Narayan who did so.
Taking all the aspects into consideration, judge T H Shivashankare Gowda ordered the couple to register their marriage within the next two months. The judge also asked Narayan to furnish a written statement and a bond of Rs 1 lac stating that he would not create any problem for Soumya henceforth. If the conditions are not fulfilled, a penalty of Rs 1 lac will have to be deposited in the court, the judge ordered.
