Udupi, Jan 30: The women of the Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Kodi near Brahmavar here have intensified their protest against the arrack shop which has been started without the permission of the Gram Panchayat.
An arrack shop was started in the Kodi gram panchayat area a few days without even securing the permission from the concerned gram panchayat. But the members of the Samasthi, Adarsh, and Suryodaya SHGs of Kodi protested against this. However, the shop owner is said to have threatened the women for this. At this, the women intensified their protest.
But the shop has not yet been closed and the owner continues to threaten the women. Enraged by these developments, the women have now approached the Udupi SP Murugan and have submitted an appeal to shut down the arrack shop. The appeal has stated that a school and temple is in the close vicinity. Moreover, Kodi being a densely populated area, arrack shop creates a lot of problem and disturbs peaceful environment of the area, said the appeal.
Women have also complained that the arrack shop owner and contractor have been threatening and troubling them ever since they launched protest against the arrack shop.
