Mangalore: Round 1 of KE 'Entreprenet' at AIMIT sees keen participation

Mangalore, Aug 2: St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, St Aloysius College, Beeri, in partnership with K E Global and Dimensions, Mumbai, hosted a business plan contest titled ‘Entreprenet-2014’ on Thursday August 1 and Friday August 2. The contest aimed at promoting entrepreneurial talent among youth of our nation.
The dignitaries who graced the inaugural session of the event were Manohar Pai, associate director of Innovation Centre and professor of dept. of Information and Communication Technology, MIT, Manipal, Shobha Mendonca, managing director of Middle East factory and former president of the Dubai chapter of Kanara Entrepreneurs Limited (KEL) from 2010-2012, Fr Denzil Lobo, rector and director of AIMIT, Fr Swebert D’Silva, Principal of St Aloysius College, Mark D’Souza, chartered accountant and director governance, KE-Global and president, KE, Bangalore, Fr Pradeep Sequeira, administrator, AIMIT, Beeri, Dr A S Vasudeva Rao, senior professor, T A Pai Management Institute, Manipal, Adrian D’Souza, director, finance, KE, Bangalore, Albert Rodrigues, Millennium Insurance brokers. The masters of the ceremony were Elroy Monis, Lecturer, AIMIT, Beeri and Rajni Suresh, assistant professor.
As part of welcoming the gathering, a brief video highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship, innovation and ideas was presented. The college choir then led the gathering into prayer which was followed by the lighting of the lamp.
Dr Vincent Mascarenhas, coordinator of the Entreprenet-2014, formally introduced the dignitaries on and off the dais and welcomed the gathering.
The chief guest for the day, Dr Manohar Pai gave a brief introduction to entrepreneurship and the high risks path to be encountered on the way.
Shobha Mendonca stressed on the need of having such a contest. She emphasized that such events are set up to understand and tap the skills of the budding entrepreneurs and that this contest would provide a perfect opportunity to achieve the same.
Fr Swebert D’Silva said that it’s a good trend where people as well as students are starting their own business, which is a kick start to entrepreneurship. The other important point that he emphasized was on the quality of entrepreneurs, who need to portray a good image of them along with a right attitude and should believe in oneself and the people involved. Thereby, take risk to become a successful entrepreneur.
Fr Denzil Lobo, in his speech said that simple ideas can change the world around and that we belong to a decade of innovation. He also emphasized on the need to set up innovations and creative ideas which leads to entrepreneurship.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof Venkatesh Amin.
The inaugural session of the event concluded at 11 am with the rendition of the college anthem by the college choir.
Valedictory
The valedictory function of Entreprenet ’14 began at 3:30 pm on August 2 with a cultural event.
The dignitaries for the function were Mark D’Souza, chartered accountant and director governance, KE-Global and president, KE, Bangalore. Shobha Mendonca, managing director of Middle East factory and former president of the Dubai chapter of Kanara Entrepreneurs Limited (KEL) from 2010-2012, Fr Denzil Lobo,rector and director of St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, Fr Pradeep Sequeira, administrator of AIMIT, Dr Rowena Wright, dean MBA dept, Prof Santhosh Rebello, dean MCA dept, Adrian D’Souza, director finance, KE, Bangalore, Albert Rodrigues, Millennium Insurance brokers and Dr A S Vasudeva Rao, senior professor, T A Pai Management Institute, Manipal.
Prof Venkatesh Amin welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering and gave a briefing about the two day event. Mark D’Souza stressed on the message that we need to learn something new every day and to be a leader we need to learn faster than our competitors.He spoke about the theme of the event as “Building Business leaders”.
Mark also mentioned about the final rounds of Entreprenet ’14 to be held on the January 31 and February 1, 2014 in Bangalore and invited everyone for the same. He also mentioned that this was a platform for the investors to invest in the new and raw ideas generated by budding entrepreneurs. He felicitated the coordinators of the event Dr Vincent Mascarenhas, Prof Venkatesh Amin and Prof Elroy Monis on behalf of K E Global and Dimensions, Mumbai.
Fr Denzil Lobo addressed the gathering about the importance of entrepreneurship and generation of new ideas. He emphasized that thinking can produce ideas and one needs to visualize constantly to be a successful entrepreneur. He concluded his speech by quoting Dr A P J Abdul Kalam “Dream is not what you get in your sleep, it is something that does not allow you to sleep”.
The judges were felicitated by the faculties of St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology.The participants gave a very positive feedback about the hospitality and the organizing of the event.
The qualifiers for the semi-finals of the Business Plan contest are as follows:
1st place: Sagar Laygude (IIT Chennai)
2nd place: Rahul and Naveen (XIME, Bangalore)
3rd place: Rajshekhar (SJCBA, Bangalore)
