Mangalore: SMS and lose: Woman falls prey to lottery scam, poorer by Rs 3 lac

Mangalore, Aug 2: Despite several reports in the media and warnings, cases of people falling prey to mobile lottery scams does not seem to have died down. As they say, as long as there are people to be fooled, there will be people who cheat!

In yet another incident, a woman from Kinnigoli realized that she was fooled by a lottery message after losing Rs 3 lac.

In this regard, the woman has filed a complaint with Mulky police.

"You mobile number has won 5 crore pounds. In order to avail the amount, kindly pay the custom clearance amount after which the money will be deposited to your account" was the message received by the woman.

Believing this, without informing anyone, the woman sent Rs 3,07,333 via Ikala branch of Karnataka Bank, Kinnigoli branch of Syndicate Bank, and SBI and Bank of Baroda.

It was only after she lost all money and got no response from the so-called lottery company that she realized that she had been fooled.

    "You mobile number has won 5 crore pounds. In order to avail the amount, kindly pay the custom clearance amount after which the money will be deposited to your account" was the message received by the woman.

    This Woman if she had little common sense in her brain could have told them by phone or by SMS to deduct the Custom Service Fees (3 Lac) from the Winning amount 5 Crore Pounds and to send the rest of the money to her Account. Isn't this a common sense or logic.
    but instead this women was overwhelmed with joy and excitement , and she tried to keep it secret and get the 5 Crore pounds by paying that 3 lac rupees to unknown strangers. She had lot of plans in her mind and she did not care to spend that small amount of 3 lac rupees to get that huge 5 crore pounds ( A Very Big Leap). She felt like she was walking on the Moon. She was living in the dark and climbing the Mount Everest in her dreams but never thought there is a steep slope on the other side of the Mountain. Now She needs help to pull her out of that steep. Please send helicopters. She did not want to share the information of the 5 Crore Winning, but she wants help from all the departments. She has realized her mistake that there are so many greedy people to extract money from the general public by showing the ultimate price

This is definitely surplus money in which she dared to remit more than 3 lacs to the fraudsters through various accounts without taking any of her near and dear ones into confidence!! God has given her so much but still greed for more more made her commit this folly!!

    such lottery cheatings are everywhere.few People like this woman just thought why not some more crores to lacs.greediness ,without knowing how it Comes .at last lost everything .didnt even think a bit when sending moneythrough three Banks.nothing to comment.I too had a "Chance"to become rich.I replied to the Person who called said you can have the Money, I willdonate to you.she had the mouth I suppose couldnt Close a Moment didnt say anything and put off the fone later without a word.

    the cheaters are not placed in UK. they are in New Delhi. If the police want they can easily catch them because now and then there are such messages and when we respond to their messages they even call us from Delhi. So please pressurize the police to investigate into the matter and stop this foolishness for ever...

    Custom clearance for Money?????????????? , Lady of Kinnigoli , Enchi na ye , eni ta kalod , onji , Cup aari korpujer darmog, eer 3 laksha korniya akleg . Mam first of all how many zeros in 5 Crore pounds and in which bank you will keep such a huge money. Come on people just barely such msgs or please do consult with few people before blindly doing something like this.

    It is shocking incident. This time it is women. I really wonder why bank people didnot verify the receving client. Or at least bank person should have asked the payee about the nature of money transfer. It is disgusting matter.I bilieve any tranfser more than 50K requires PAN CARD number. In this case what happened ?

    There are 2 ways of looking at. First one, yes, it's clear mistake from the lady to fall in to such a silly scandle ( I say it as a scandle ). She should have verified with some one before transfering the amount. We alert so many people when they come to us asking on such mails or sms. Now, looking from other direction, how such a crime can be uted so easily. We have the account where the amount transfered with which we can track the branch of the account and in turn address of the account holder to whom amount is transfered. Check the documents which were provided while opening the account. I agree it could be false documents but definitely it can be tracked who was handling the account and other stuffs. Bank is also responsible partially to let such an account opened with false documents. Let the police break few such chains and stop innocent people fall in to such issues.
