Mumbai, Jan 27: Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan said he would be leaving on Friday for Sultanate of Oman for a possible tie up of a gas supply for the Dabhol Power Project to meet the deadline of re-starting the power production in May this year.
The Minister, interacting with reporters, said initially the government was looking for supply of .7 million tonnes of gas per annum for the plant.
However, he did not specify the price.
In case the gas supply was not available the plant may be run on liquid fuel, he said.
The Minister also said a 4000 MW power project was soon coming up near Dabhol Power Project in Maharashtra.
Earlier, the Power Ministry has asked Ratnagiri Gas and Power Private Ltd (RGPPL) to start first block of 740 MW by May in order to give necessary relief to Maharashtra, reeling under a daily power shortfall of 4200 MW.
