Udupi, Jul 30: Opposing privatization of the mid-day meal, Karnataka Rajya Akshara Dhasoha, employees unions (CITU) together organized a protest in front of the DC office on Monday July 29.
After the mid day meal was introduced, the number of students in schools has increased.
There are no financial barriers between poor and rich children now. The vegetables used for midday meals are healthier as they are locally made and prepared.
The midday meals give more and more work opportunities to women. The government is not providing sufficient drinking water, gas, and kitchen facilities in schools and this is directly and indirectly leading to thought of privatization.
The matter was taken up in the Assembly by Kimmane Rathnakar, primary and higher education minister, which is an irresponsible move which affects the workers, including one lac women, said the protestors.
They demanded that the state government, instead of privatization, should think of providing basic facilities and necessary appointments should be made. Basic salary and training should be provided and they should be made permanent.
Dasu Bandari, president, Sunanda, general secretary, Dogu Suvarna, vice-president, and Balakrishna Shetty were present.
